Dear Families

Welcome back to the official start to our first remote Summer Term! All of us want to send our love and say how much we are all missing you. We hope you are all well and had a lovely Easter break with your families. It was nice to have so much sunshine.

We’ve all had to adapt to new ways of working, so I wanted to take the opportunity to say what an amazing job you’re doing supporting your children’s wellbeing and learning during this time. It’s definitely a very strange time, so it’s okay if you and your child feel wobbly and worried at the moment. We’re here for you every step of the way as we figure this out together. Remember if you have any concerns about helping your child learn or need any other support from us, please let us know by emailing office@stjosephs.w-berks.sch.uk and we will get back to you.

I hope you have all enjoyed the range of fun and varied learning opportunities that the staff have been providing for you both online and off. I have enjoyed seeing the lovely photos that you have been sending in – please keep them coming! We will be continuing to send a weekly newsletter each Friday to share all the things you are doing at home, so keep a close eye on your emails.

We miss your children very much but we must follow the government advice so that we can keep everyone safe. So we’re carrying on with work available on the website and only opening for keyworker children. Just because we are not all in the same building, doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun together! Your children will have lots of fun activities they can get stuck into over the summer term, so keep an eye on this home learning area of the website. The teachers have prepared another week of learning activities for you which are on the website. We are currently introducing online learning platforms to all Key Stages which will enable further activities and contact from the staff. You will receive further Key Stage letters with information about logins and how this will develop. These are both very exciting platforms and ones that we will continue to use once we are all back in school. If you have any trouble accessing any of the activities please let us know.

Once again, there is no expectation of how much of this work is to be completed or for how long. Please go with your child and your family situation. We continue to suggest that very few children will manage more than 20-30 minutes focusing on the work we have offered. For younger children, 15 minutes would be a maximum. We suggest that little and often would be better than a longer period. If at all possible, include in your days some fresh air and exercise, some craft activities, doing some cooking together, sharing a story, as well as online activities.

We can’t say yet when we will be able to open the school fully, but rest assured we will continue doing our utmost to keep your children learning and our school community connected.

Finally, stay safe, keep positive and remember that your family’s wellbeing is most important at this time. 😊
