School Uniform

At St Joseph's we have a strict uniform policy and all children are expected to wear their uniform at all times. We believe that school uniform instils a sense of pride and belonging. A full list of school uniform requirements is issued when pupils start at our school and is available on our website at all times.

Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly marked with your child’s name.

Please ensure that your child wears black or brown shoes of a sensible style. Trainers are not allowed except for PE and should be black or white.

PE kit

Children to keep their PE kit in the PE bag provided in EYFS which should be clearly marked with your child’s name. This should remain in school all week and be taken home on a Thursday as children should wear their PE kit to school every Friday for FIT friday Children need a pair of black canvas plimsolls or black or white trainers for outdoor PE.

Painting overall

Please provide a painting overall for your child. An old shirt is ideal for this purpose, adapted by putting elastic at the cuffs and a piece of velcro to secure it at the neck.

Outdoor clothing

Items worn to and from school are not regulated and the school relies upon parents to select appropriate items. Please ensure your child brings a coat to school. If wellingtons or fashion boots are worn to school, then a change of shoes should be provided for wearing during the day.

Children are not allowed to wear jewellery at school, as it can be a potential cause of injury.  In the case of pierced ears, a single small gold stud may be worn only if the child can remove and replace them unaided for PE and games. Watches may be worn at the child’s own risk.

Hair accessories

In the interest of safety and hygiene we encourage long hair to be plaited or tied. Please use discreet accessories in maroon, golden yellow, black or white. We encourage short, smart hair styles but not shaven or shorn.

Make-up & Nail Varnish

Children are not allowed to wear make-up and nail varnish and will be asked to remove it.

Non-Uniform Days

Whilst we encourage children to wear non-uniform on specific days notified in advance we ask that children do not wear Jewellery, make-up or nail varnish, no shoes with heels should be worn and long hair should continue to be tied back.  On most Mufti days normal timetables are generally adhered to and therefore children should wear clothes that allow them to take part fully in the lessons.
