Welcome to Year 4

Class Teacher: Miss Kent & Mrs Ardagh-Walter

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Lockhart

In Year 4 we are becoming independent learners and we place a strong emphasis on all those really important life skills such as; communication, team work, self-confidence, assertiveness and empathy. We will be covering creative curriculum topics that will take us across the world and back in time, and may even get a few survival tips along the way!

Trip to the Dentist

On Thursday 21st October Year 4 went to the dentist.

We walked to the town to Newbury Dental Practice where we were split into groups.  Two groups went to have check ups with the dentist and one group did activities with the dental nurses.  After everyone had had their check-up they all joined in with the activities.  We were all given goody bags to come home with and a pass the parcel game which we did in class when we got back to school.

The dentist talked to us about plaque and enamel, good and bad things about teeth (such as, sugar is not good for your teeth; some fruits are good). When we got upstairs we were given a hand balloon (the dentist blow up their plastic gloves).  We also got given free toothpaste tube.  Y4 can enter a colouring competition, you have to colour a sheet f paper the dentist gave us and you can win an electric toothbrush. When we got back to school we got a free goody bag and played pass the parcel.

Parent Support

A strong home school link is essential for ensuring your child gets the most out of their education. We really appreciate support from home. Please help your child to:

  • Read regularly – please date and sign your child’s reading record, 5 reads a week = 1 house point!
  • Learn their times tables
  • Complete their homework to a high standard
  • Improve their spelling, punctuation and grammar – weekly spelling journals will show the new spelling rules we are working on in class.
  • Write in joined up cursive script

Please do not hesitate to come and talk to me if you would like further information or support.
